Everyone walks or drives to the lighthouse. You're going to ride - and arrive without breaking a sweat on the hills.

Cape Byron Lighthouse marks the most easterly point of mainland Australia, and the ride there is one of the best in Byron - coastal views, whale watching in season, and a climb that's a non-issue on an e-bike.

Why ride, not walk (or drive)

• No parking headaches. Lighthouse car parks fill up fast, especially at sunrise. A bike doesn't have that problem.

The ride

Start from town, wind along the coast road towards Wategos Beach, and climb to the lighthouse for sweeping Pacific views. Time it for sunrise or sunset for the best light - and keep an eye out for whales and dolphins if you're visiting during migration season (June–November).

FAQ

How long does the ride to the lighthouse take? From central Byron, it's a moderate ride of around 15-20 minutes each way at an easy pace, with a few climbs along the way that the e-bike motor makes effortless.

Is it a hard ride? There are hills, but the e-bike's pedal assist means it's manageable for most riders regardless of fitness level.

What's the best time to ride to the lighthouse? Sunrise for the light and fewer crowds, or late afternoon during whale season (June-November) for a chance to spot whales from the headland.
